Derrick Lewis knocked Curtis Blaydes into another world just now. The heavyweights were clashing in the main event of UFC Vegas 19 and the winner was bound to enter the title picture after the fight. While many assumed it would be Blaydes because of his wrestling acumen, Lewis just proved that counting him out is always a bad bet.

He hit Blaydes with a clean uppercut as he shot for a takedown. After the fight, Lewis looked a little spent but didn’t waste time when it came to trying to get his next fight. He called out Israel Adesanya and the next heavyweight contender in line, Jon Jones.

“I heard Jon Jones was coming up. It makes no sense to me that he’s fighting for the title, but pretty sure that Izzy is going to come up and fight at heavyweight, so we’ll just see.”

When pressed for one name by Bisping, Lewis called out the titleholder Stipe Miocic. He said, “I guess Stipe. I like them wrestlers.”

Derrick Lewis: Is he back in the title picture?

Derrick Lewis is a former title challenger. While he fell short in 2018 when he took on Daniel Cormier at UFC 230, he may stand another shot now. The division has changed, but Lewis is still around at the top. He has never fought Stipe Miocic and was the last man to beat Francis Ngannou.

Lewis is truly a one-punch merchant like no other. His fighting style is similar to Ngannou’s, which is why their battle was so underwhelming. However, it is easy to beat Lewis if you can avoid being hit by him. The thing is that it isn’t easy to not be hit by him.

One punch from Lewis puts anyone out, and even Jon Jones would struggle with that if they ever fought. The top of the division is jammed, but it doesn’t look like ‘The Black Beast’ is in a rush to fight.

It will be interesting to see how the fights in this UFC division play out. Especially after the result of Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Cyril Gane next week.

Do you think Derrick Lewis could fight ‘Bones’ or Miocic sometime soon?
