Serena Williams’ lackluster season
But Serena was a bit behind the top two. She had a respectable 80% win percentage. Serena won 17 out of her 22 matches. But it was another frustrating year for the American. She only won one tournament in 2020, and her best Grand Slam result was the semifinal appearance at the US Open.

What could have been for Simona Halep in 2020?
Halep had a mixed season. The Romanian surely had to win a Grand Slam, but she didn’t. Instead, she won three titles and enjoyed a decent season, but she was capable of more. She had a record of 13-1 after the season restart, which had the 13 match win streak on the clay court. She entered the French Open as a heavy favorite but was thrashed by 19-year-old and eventual winner Iga Swiatek.
Easily it can be seen that Serena is the player that will have to do a lot to bridge this gap. Halep and Osaka have been doing well for the past few years and will look to continue their form in 2021.
