Chase Elliott Snubs Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon’s Speculation About His Disastrous 2023 NASCAR Season
Chase Elliott‘s 2023 season is something that got the whole fandom perplexed. The most popular driver in NASCAR not only lost his way in the tournament but failed to make it to the playoffs, something the 2020 Cup Series champion never came across during his eight seasons in Stock Car Racing’s top-tier division.
An unfortunate snowboarding incident has been called out as the main culprit in the driver’s disappointing fallout. But the HMS driver recently came out with a different perspective, going against the grain and downplaying his team owner’s claim and the legendary Jeff Gordon’s comments about him.

Fans and HMS addicts were in for a shock when NASCAR’s golden boy, Elliott who punched his ticket seven other times failed to do so in 2023. While an early March snowboarding accident got the driver in dire straits missing several races with a broken left leg and others driving his #9 car. Elliott’s hopes of a bounce-back were stifled when the team and the driver failed to capitalize on the given opportunities.
While that is the fact of the matter, many including his team boss and HMS VP believed otherwise. However, the driver recently came out with a massive claim that seemed to throw his higher-ups under the bus as the racing fandom came to know the real reason behind his disappointing fallout from the driver himself. Speaking to AP.com, Elliott said, “I certainly don’t blame the injury. I don’t think my knee had anything to do with our performance.”

“It would be really easy for me to take that excuse but I just don’t think it is valid. I think the things we struggled with last year were the things we were struggling with at the end of ’22 and they rolled over into last season,” added the driver as he reiterated the past season.

The 2023 season’s fallout was such a massive shock for Elliott fans some still hoped for a miracle to get their favorite driver into the playoff but truth be told that simply wasn’t the case. Instead, the dismal season taught the driver some valuable lessons in life that he aims to put forth in each season from now on. “I still enjoy racing very much. I enjoy the competition aspect of it more than anything, and I think for me, it’s probably misunderstood, I guess, or it sounds like it is, but I just want to be good at it,” Elliott said. “I want to be competitive. I want to feel like I’m holding up my end of the bargain and I just don’t feel like I have done a very good job.”
Furthermore, the driver revealed his psyche, saying, “Over the last number of months and throughout the course of last season — and no excuse at all — I want to be better and I want to do better. I would argue it’s the exact opposite, that a lot of the times when you see my frustration, it is because I want I be better, not because I don’t want to be there. So I’d be careful coming to those conclusions without knowing the full understanding.”
