The build-up to the All-Star weekend in NASCAR has been an exciting journey, especially with the revival of the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway. However, amidst the anticipation and enthusiasm, Dale Earnhardt Jr, a prominent figure in the racing world and behind the $116M revival initiative for the track, has expressed his grave concerns about the upcoming event.

In his podcast ‘Dale Jr Download,’ Earnhardt Jr voiced his worries about the challenges that could arise during the All-Star Race weekend.

He acknowledged that, while efforts have been made to improve the logistics and overall experience, traffic management remains a significant concern. Dale Jr highlighted that managing traffic has always been a challenge, even dating back to the early days in the sport.

“It’s going to be a difficult challenge, but not unlike the way it was in 1996. I mean, it’s not like it’s worse than it always was,” commented Dale Jr during the podcast. He acknowledged that some improvements have been made, such as renting local land and having a fleet of over 50 “giant” buses to transport people between lots.

He further added, “Those things weren’t there in the 90’s drive so yes to your point Mike, traffic will be a problem but they have done a lot of things to try to mitigate it becoming something that would deter you from being there the next time. But we might suffer through some of these inconveniences the first trip but they want you to come back so they’re gonna do everything they can to make it manageable, they want you to come back in next year.” These measures were not available in the past, and the organizers are striving to make the event more manageable for the fans.

Dale Jr’s concerns about traffic management are not unwarranted. The return of the North Wilkesboro Speedway has generated tremendous excitement, attracting both diehard NASCAR fans and a younger audience. The 0.625-mile-long track has witnessed more action in the past few days than it has in over 25 years. The revival of this old racetrack is a promising development for the sport.
