On August 1 of this year, Ryan Blaney could end up going toe-to-toe against his father Dave Blaney in the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) series. Some may say that Team Penske star will hold the advantage over his father as he is the current NASCAR Cup Series champion. But it is important to remember that Dave is also a former World of Outlaws champion. If the two find themselves racing against each other, it would surely be an intriguing battle to watch.

Ryan Blaney’s first-ever mentor in motorsports was his father. When his son won the Cup Series, Dave Blaney was an incredibly proud man, as he should be. Despite not starting the 2023 season on a good note, the 30-year-old kept working hard and found a purple patch of form at just the right time. It was incredible to see the #12 Team Penske car defy all the odds and take NASCAR’s biggest prize.

The Dave Blaney vs Ryan Blaney idea is something that has been circulating for a while now. It is definitely a contest that fans would love to see. Well, that dream may come to fruition at the Berlin Raceway, where the SRX series will race on August 1 of this year. Nothing has been confirmed yet but the Twitter handle of the race track shared an update that points in that direction and mentioned SRX CEO Donald Hawk.

“We’d love to have Cup Champ @Blaney and @BuckeyeBullet10 race against each other at Berlin! @HawkSMI  is the king matchmaker, so we know whoever he has show up will undoubtedly be special. 💨💨💨 @SRXracing,” the tweet read. It was directed towards a fan who wanted to see the father and son race against each other.

The Instagram handle of Superstar Experience Racing also shared a post that would suggest the same. The picture uploaded showed a picture of Ryan and Dave Blaney and the Berlin Raceway tweet above. The caption to the post read, “A proper sequel? 👀”

While it’s difficult to say who would win in a race between Ryan and Dave Blaney in equal machinery, the former World of Outlaws champion always believed that his son had what it took to reach the top of the NASCAR pyramid. In an earlier interview with Dale Earnhardt Jr, the 61-year-old revealed when he saw that talent in his son.

The event took place over 15 years ago in Orange County. Iit was the very first competitive Super Late Model racing event for 14-year-old Ryan Blaney. The 2023 Cup Series champion was joined by Kyle Busch and his father Tom at the track as well. As per Dave Blaney, his son’s race craft at that young age was all he needed to know that Ryan would make it big in motorsports.

“We stand on top of my trailer and he goes from about 14th, 16th to 4th in about 40 laps at Orange County up the hill, driving under him, around him, we are standing like is Kyle Busch driving this car. He is 14, first race, I knew right there, he had it. I don’t know if it’s going to get you there but Holy cr*p, that was nice. That 40 laps was enough for me,” he said.

Even when Ryan Blaney might have doubted his abilities, his father never lost faith. And all those years of hard work and dedication came to fruition in 2023. The goal for the 30-year-old would now be to win as many Cup Series titles as possible and solidify his place as one of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all time.
