One cannot fully bid adieu to the world of motorsports, can they? Even after hanging up their helmets and bidding farewell to the fast lane, drivers often return to take their seats behind the wheel for another time. That is the essence of the world of motorsports. Whether it is Formula 1 or NASCAR, racing runs deep in the veins of the drivers and has become an indispensable part of their daily lives.

One such driver is Dale Earnhardt Jr. The co-owner of JR Motorsports is set to start his engine one more time on the iconic track of Bristol in the Xfinity Series. However, it seems that he is racing for a cause, as he spills the beans in his pre-race interview.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals the reason for returning to racing

The last time Dale Earnhardt Jr. took his seat behind the wheel as a professional racer was back in 2017. After suffering a series of concussions that had the potency of turning into something fatal, the driver announced that he would be retiring from racing after the conclusion of the 2017 Cup Series. However, that did not attest to the fact, that he won’t be retiring to the world of racing.

Apart from being a NASCAR analyst, Dale Jr. competes in one Xfinity race every season, and this year it is Bristol. The last time the driver completed on the track of Bristol was back in August 2017 in the Cup Series, where he finished 13th. Nevertheless, since then times have changed by leaps and bounds, and so has the intricacy of the sport.

Driving the No.88 for his own team JR Motorsports, Junior in his pre-race interview with NBC divulged the reasons behind his urge to race once again. He expressed, “Well, I am racing for my daughter so that she can see what we like to do and what we have done all our lives. Just gonna have some fun, I missed Bristol, I ain’t raced here for 6 or 7 years.”

“I probably bit off a little more than I could chew. When I went to practice I was not sure if I was good enough to do this, but luckily we got a great car that could carry me through the qualifying. I think the worst case would be I might get caught up. You know how this place is man, takes a while, and gets caught up. It’s fast and there’s not a lot of practice just a handful of laps,” Junior added.

There is no denying the fact that one does not forget their craft and skills, even after going out of practice. The same can be attributed to racing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. may not have competed for a title for more than 5 years, however, the driver believes that he would be able to have a favorable day.

Continuing on the same line, Junior stated, “I would love a top 10 and a top 15. It’s easy to get in trouble here. My race craft, I don’t know where’s that at, where my patience is,  my self-awareness to understand where the cars are at around me. You gotta be on top of each other all night.”

“I got a new spotter Joey. I just hope everything goes well and there are a lot of reasons why it shouldn’t, hopefully, I don’t make any mistakes just get to finish the race. It’s great to be reminded why you love it, so I get to do that tonight.”

With just one race in hand to satisfy the hunger for racing, it will be interesting to see how Dale Jr. fares in the race, and whether he is able to notch a top 10 finish in the race if not a victory on the track of Bristol.
