Fueling the nightmares of NASCAR drivers once again, Shane Van Gisbergen will be competing in both the Indianapolis’ Truck and Cup Series races this weekend. With many in the racing community not convinced by van Gisbergen’s Chicago performance, the Kiwi took up the Indianapolis challenge to secure his future in the American sport.

But Shane Van Gisbergen won’t be alone in his Indy endeavors. Joining the Kiwi will be Brodie Kostecki, who will be making his NASCAR debut at Indianapolis’ Cup Series race. With his mate from the ‘Land Down Under’ all geared up for his first NASCAR run, Van Gisbergen has now sent out a warning.

Although Shane Van Gisbergen’s Chicago victory was enthralling, the racing community mostly remained fixated on his flawless driving prowess. In a sport known for its paint-rubbing and spin out action, the Kiwi drove through the field with surgical precision and even performed a perfect no-contact crossover move on Justin Haley. Although he did get bumped a few times throughout the race, Shane Van Gisbergen refrained from handing out similar treatment to fellow drivers. But with Brodie Kostecki joining the playing field, the dynamics are bound to change.

Paying a visit to Dale Earnhardt Jr in his Bojangles Studio, the Kiwi sat down for a chat on the Dale Jr Download podcast. Speaking to the Kiwi about Kostecki’s NASCAR run, Junior said, “Brodie (Kostecki), I know he’s got some oval or stock car experience. He’s not gonna be completely far into him. And he’s been running tons of sims for RCR. So, maybe I’ve handicapped him a little hard but I’ll be curious I guess as to how he’ll run.”

Handing out a warning to the drivers in NASCAR’s stables, Van Gisbergen replied, “And he doesn’t take stick, so he’ll not be afraid to give it back at them. He’s not scared, he’ll be very good. He doesn’t really, I shouldn’t say he doesn’t care, but he’s all in, it’s pretty cool. He’ll be good to watch.”

With Kostecki joining NASCAR in Indianapolis, one may believe his arrival was heralded by van Gisbergen’s Chicago success, but that is far from the truth.

Taking a page from Trackhouse Racing’s book, Richard Childress added the #33 Camaro ZL1 to his team’s arsenal, assigning the car to Brodie Kostecki. Far from popular belief, Kostecki’s Cup Series entry had been in works since the 2022 season. Spilling the beans on how he hitched a ride with RCR, Kostecki spoke to NASCAR’s Corey LaJoie on the Stacking Pennies podcast.

“It sort of started about a year ago um yeah when I sort of actually come back and I went to the Indy 500, went to Gateway because it was on the week after, and sort of just put my face in front of a few people. I wasn’t having a great season back home in Supercars at that point…So yeah just the goal was to try to put my name in front of a few people,” Kostecki said.

He further added, “I got some really good friends back home that are friends with some key people at RCR, Dana and Terry Wyhoon. So yeah, they put me in front of Richard (Childress) about a year ago and he said let’s try and make something work. And yeah, we locked in Indy probably around about eight months ago now.”
