With so much at stake in NASCAR, drivers tend to bump and wreck rival drivers often. In the recent race at the Coliseum, with just a quarter mile to work with, there was no hiding for any of the racers from being in contact with other cars. However, the other aspect of this aggressive racing is that, many times, that favor is usually returned.

Addressing these very concerns on how to deal with season early sparing, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano shared their perspective in the post-race interview. Logano, sharing his unfiltered reasoning, said that it’s usually an eye for an eye, and that is the part of racing every driver incorporates. However, he soon realized he did rough up Busch the last season, and the 2-time champion was quick to let him know that he might have one coming his way in 2024.

Kyle Busch is looking to get even with Joey Logano

For Kyle Busch, the clash at the Coliseum was a solid start to his season. He finished second, just behind the winner, Denny Hamlin. However, during the post-race interview, he sarcastically reminded Joey Logano about last year’s incident, where he spun Busch’s No. 8 car. Joey Logano, trying to make his case in explaining the true nature of competitive racing, said, “Racing is usually an eye for an eye more times than not.

“We’re trying to come out with explanations of what happened and mistakes are mistakes. I’ve been on both ends of it. I got Kyle last year.” To this Busch instantly responded, “I still owe him”. Logano further went on to add, “I mean it’s part of racing here and you try not to because you know there’s bigger races down the line but sometimes you’re in a bad spot and you just make mistakes and that can happen too.”

Kyle Busch addressed how such scenarios can be avoided depending on who you’re running with. “I mean a lot of these guys probably haven’t learned any respect over the years in the series that they race and it’s kind of found its way to our series unfortunately.” Given the nature of the Busch Light Clash, banging and bumping have sort of become the norm, and from time to time, drivers often look to repay the favor during the race itself.

RCR’s No. 8 was among the leading pack for most of the first half of the racing at the Coliseum, just behind Ty Gibbs and Joey Logano. With 10 laps to go in the race, Busch was still in contention at #4. Even during overtime, he was breathing down Hamlin’s neck, but the No. 11 from JGR did not let go of the lead and took the checkered flag. The 39-year-old was feeling disappointed after taking home the win but was glad to have had a good night of racing.

“It definitely does sting. I felt like the first half we were better, had a better car, better than the 11. But some of the adjustments we made weren’t as good, some of the adjustments they made were better. All in all, glad to have a good night, glad to come out here in one piece even with all the bumping and banging and everything else that happens.” Busch said in a post-race interview.

With the Daytona 500 next, Kyle Busch will have an opportunity to settle his unfinished business in the Cup Series by clinching his first win at the marquee event.
