Kyle Busch Insider Speaks Up on Richard Childress’ Collaborative Nature Advancing His Influence Over NASCAR

Richard Childress is a highly respected figure in the world of NASCAR, mainly because of his contributions to the growth of the sport. His involvement with various racing teams has played a significant role in promoting NASCAR and fostering its competitiveness. And, through an insider, we may have found out how Childress does it all!

In the 2016 season, Richard Childress Racing and Kaulig Racing announced a technical alliance that has further propelled both teams. This alliance enables both teams to collaborate by sharing resources and information. A big part of this alliance is the ECR Engines. In addition to this, Kaulig Racing also houses their race shops on RCR‘s campus. However, these partnerships do not come out of the blue and require a lot of effort to come to fruition. But for all this, Richard Childress seems to be a natural.

NASCAR is currently undertaking a new project aimed at implementing changes in short tracks. As part of this endeavor, the governing body will be conducting a test race using a new short track package on July 17-18, 2023, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Notably, Kaulig Racing, led by Matt Kaulig, will be participating in this test race, with their driver Justin Haley taking the wheel.

During a recent episode of the MRN Crew Call podcast, Randall Burnett, the Crew Chief for Kyle Busch, shed light on how their alliance with Kaulig Racing amid all this is beneficial.

He said, “They’re good partners of us. We do all our meetings with them, and share lot of information with them so you know we work really good together with Trent and Matt and everybody there at Kaulig”

He continued, “So we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on what they’re doing up there, take all their feedback, and see if we can learn anything from that test. I don’t know what NASCAR’s plans are doesn’t sound like they are going to change that for this year.”

Randall expressed uncertainty regarding NASCAR’s future plans by stating, “You know… they’ve been known to do crazier things so we’ll just see how that test goes, I think if it’s a smashing success and then maybe you know they’ll do something different, I don’t know.”

Furthermore, Richard Childress has gained a reputation for extending assistance to other teams in need, going beyond formal agreements. The RCR campus is well-regarded for providing valuable engineering support to numerous Xfinity and Cup teams. Childress’s involvement with these racing teams has not only fostered their growth but has also contributed to the advancement of the teams under their alliance.

During the same podcast, Randall Burnett discussed the impressive infrastructure of RCR’s campus and the buildings associated with their alliance.

He stated, “We’ve got the 48 Xfinity cars on campus over here that’s during our old engineering building across the street here from our main building and then Kaulig got two buildings here up on campus. We’ve got all ECR up here. Obviously, museums over here which is really cool that was the original building here that they got started in on this part of the campus.”

He continued, “So yeah it a cool place to drive into every morning. You cross railroad tracks, you come in there and see the museum, see a lot of cool cars in the windows up there and just uh you know they done a great job, RC’s done a great job of building this place and really taking it and working with the alliance teams helping other teams getting going and you know he’s done that for a long time and it’s really impressive to see it grow and be a part of it.”

As we said, Richard Childress seems to be a natural when it comes to collaboration.
