Richard Childress Racing is having to endure high tides. Ever since last month’s Martinsville Speedway Cup race, the times have not been tough for them. In the current news, they have been charged with violation of an underwing assembly regulation.

With the recently amended NASCAR appeals process, teams have lost the power to appeal for a rescind. This allows no team to escape penalties in case of violations if found guilty. Following the legal processes, RCR faces a hefty fine of $75,000, 60 points and 5 playoff points. This incident has certainly dented Austin Dillon‘s hopes in the playoff chase.

With newer obstacles arriving for the Richard Childress camp, fans have expressed their concern and further questioned the timing of the penalty. They have also stood behind unlucky teammate of Kyle Busch, as he gets hit with the L1 penalty.

Fans Unhappy With The Timing of The Decision

NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass tweeted, “The 60-point penalty and five playoff point reduction to Austin Dillon stands (as does the $75K fine to crew chief Keith Rodden).” With the playoff point deduction, Dillon has been put on thin ice.

In response to NASCAR’s verdict, the team put out a statement saying, “While we are disappointed in today’s ruling, we look forward to having this issue in the rear-view mirror so we can focus on thè rest of the 2023 NASCAR season.”

Some fans have also pointed out the difference in the treatment of teams. Hendrick Motorsports have found themselves in such a situation before, where they managed to successfully appeal against the charges. This saved their teams 100 points and 10 playoff points each. With their four cars violating the regulations, fans have deemed the penalty on Richard Childress Racing unfair.

Richard Childress‘s grandson has got a bit too much on his plate. To get hit with a penalty at such a crucial stage of the season is a bitter pill to take. NASCAR fans on Twitter have also shared their thoughts as they sympathize with the #3 driver.

“Durn. Hope that don’t knock him out of playoffs!”

While some fans have extended their support, a section believes it makes no difference as Dillon’s qualification is too tough a task.

“Don’t matter. He wasn’t getting in anyway.”

“the timing of this could not have been any worse”

While the decision has put the followers of the sport in a frenzy, it is a bit harsh indeed on the aspirations of both RCR and Austin Dillon. To lose such valuable points is a big loss in the long run, but it remains to be seen how Dillon and the team overcome this obstacle.
