It is the second consecutive year that the members of Joe Gibbs Racing got to relish Loudon the Lobster. While the prized lobster stayed in the same team camp, the hands that held it changed. In the last race in New Hampshire, it was Christopher Bell who was crowned the winner, and this time it is Bell’s teammate Martin Truex Jr. The No. 19 had put up a class act as he led more than half of the total number of laps in the race.

The hard-earned victory by Martin Truex Jr. was surely a treat for the eyes of every NASCAR enthusiast. On the contrary, it was the defending victor who had a tough day. As his chances of achieving another victory went amiss on the tracks of Monster Mile.

With the ensuing incidents, NASCAR veteran Dale Jarrett seemed to be critical of the rudimentary blunders made by Joe Gibbs Racing during the race on the latest episode of NASCAR on NBC.

NASCAR veteran chastises crew members of Christopher Bell for jeopardizing his race

The qualifying on Saturday for Cup Series driver Christopher Bell was assuredly on the bright side, as he went on to win the pole position for the main event of Crayon 301. The No. 20 Toyota driver and his team were optimistic that they had simply snatched an opportunity to defend the title.

As the day unraveled on Monday, the race slowly grew grim for the No. 20 driver as he fell back into the pack after leading the race for just one lap. However, a loose wheel after pitting and a late spin on the track seemed to throw all the strategies haywire for the driver. Due to such mistakes, Dale Jarrett seemed to castigate the crew members for their lapses of judgment.

Nate Ryan, the host of the podcast, claimed that while Bell’s crew members were responsible for some of the errors, the driver was solely to blame for others.

Hearing Ryan’s thoughts, Dale Jarrett expressed, “That all comes back to that. He never did ever get back to where he had been running before the penalty, so it was an uphill battle the entire afternoon, after that. So these mistakes have to be cleaned up for these drivers and their teams and the crews to make sure they are not putting themselves in these positions. We are six races away from the Playoff starting, you can’t have these things happening.”

“What might be the difference if you are not going to win around that pointing your way through? Talking about Blaney that he is already in the playoffs he has amassed a lot of points, and he is sitting in a spot with a lot of playoff points as the regular season ends. If you give away those points you lose spots one or two,” Jarett asserted.

With the race at New Hampshire done and dusted, only six races are left in the regular. After this, only the top-16 drivers will head to the post-season. But to win the championship in the regular season, each and every stage points matter for the drivers. 

Even Dale Jarrett emphasized, “That might be one or two playoff points that you have given away, but that would be the difference in going from one round to the next. You just can’t be making these mistakes and we are far enough into the year, these types of things for championship-caliber teams can’t continue to happen.”

“And again I put that in here, Christopher Bell wasn’t trying to crash the car, he was just trying everything he’s looking at, he could go by the two cars in front of him, he is looking at the top 5 and that would be the great recovery.”

Continuing to his opinion on Bell’s motive, Dale concluded by saying: “He is just a hard racer but these are the things that happened that created the issue to start with, which just get compounded by the driver that is trying to make up for that.”

There is no denying that mistakes like these are surely unacceptable. Each miscalculation seemed to give the rivals on the track an advantage. While the damage is done, teams like JGR should be careful. They need to strategize their next steps and minimize these mistakes.
