Finishing in the top three is usually considered to be a fantastic result for anyone in a Truck Series race but 22-year-old Nick Sanchez begs to differ. Strongly believing that he could have won at Texas, the racer revealed that his victory depended on race winner Kyle Busch‘s downfall. Rowdy might not have been at his best in the Cup Series but over here, he has been absolutely dominant. It’s a shame that he won’t be able to compete for the championship because the veteran would be the clear favorite.

Luck did not go Nick Sanchez’s way at Texas Motor Speedway

With Rowdy out of the title picture, there is more of a chance for drivers like Nick Sanchez. The Rev Racing man was at the center of controversy last year thanks to his physical altercation with Matt Crafton. But, fast forward to 2024, he seemed to clean up his track record with a season-opening win at Daytona. But it’s been a dry spell for the 22-year-old ever since and that spell could have ended on Friday had things gone according to how Sanchez wanted it, even if it meant somebody else’s race getting spoilt.

“Honestly it was so track position oriented. I was gonna really need the #11 and the #7 to scr*w up. I kind of lost position every restart and the last one, I was able to gain it all back. I probably was one restart away from contending but everyone was so close right there and the runs happened so quick and obviously the track is…it widened up to two grooves but it was really hard to pass, I probably needed at least another restart,” he said after the race.

Despite not winning, the driver of the #2 truck was pretty confident about his chances in the future. He has earned two top 5 finishes in succession and at Kansas, he will be hoping to win the big prize.

Nick Sanchez knows that it won’t be easy but has faith in his truck. Over the years, he has matured and that was evident in his strategy in Friday’s race. He knew that he could not get past the leaders for the race win as the race was so position-oriented. So what did he do? He remained patient and waited for an opportunity to open up instead of risking his entire race for a win. He is already in the playoffs and such unnecessary risks are not the way to go. But the 22-year-old believes that a second race win is not far away.

“I mean it was a solid night in the top 3. Obviously I wanted to win but I think the long run pace I had, the truck, to contend with Kyle on the short run, I was just free and I would overstep my boundaries a little bit and just lose overall time where maybe if I go back and do it, I would just ride and wait for it to come to me but yeah it was a solid race, top 3, it’s kind of what we need to do on our points position and yeah I think if we keep on running this way, eventually we’ll get another one,” he said.

It will be interesting to see how the Rev Racing driver performs next week at the Kansas Motor Speedway. Will he be able to end up on Victory Lane? Let us what you think!
