Richard Petty Silences Backlash as Kyle Busch Breaks an “Unbreakable” Record

So, another event goes down in the chronicles of Fontana Auto Club Speedway. The last Cup race at the soon-to-be revamped raceway stirred a whole lot of memories. Adding to the list of memorable events at Fontana was Kyle Busch, who earned his record win, breaking his tie with the King, Richard Petty.

Busch broke two records at Auto Club 400. On Sunday, Rowdy registered his 61st career win. This was the 19th consecutive Cup Series season in which he has won at least one race. In doing so, he broke Richard Petty‘s record of 18 consecutive Cup Series seasons with wins. Clinching the checkered flag at Fontana was a special event for the 37-year-old driver, considering that this is his first season with Richard Childress Racing.

However, not everyone seemed happy with Busch breaking King Petty’s record. When NASCAR on Racing along with Richard Childress Racing shared the news of Busch breaking Petty’s record on Instagram, the post received some backlash from fans.

One Instagram user wrote, “Petty is still king… Pettys 200 comes from one single series… Rowdys 200 plus come from all three series he races in..” Whereas, another one commented, “What the script ordered.”

But none of the negative comments can change what Busch had accomplished. And acknowledging his achievement, King Richard Petty reacted to the Instagram post by liking it.

Richard Petty’s record was not the only one that Kyle Busch broke on Sunday. By clinching the Auto Club 400 trophy, Kyle and his brother Kurt Busch officially became the winningest brother duo in the history of NASCAR.

Surpassing Bobby and Donnie Allison with the win, Kyle and Kurt Busch have registered a total of 95 victories throughout their career. Proud of his brother’s contributions, Kurt Busch shared the news on his Instagram handle.

The Auto Club 400 was the last Cup race at the 2-mile Fontana Speedway. The tracks are scheduled to be torn down and revamped into a new half-mile track. Coincidentally, Kyle Busch claimed his first-ever Cup win at Auto Club and now, there are two more noteworthy memories for Busch at the historic speedway.
