Rick Hendrick Provides Positive Update About the Futures of Chase Elliott and William Byron

Without the need of a second thought for a single second, no current team in the NASCAR Cup Series has a better drivers’ lineup than Hendrick Motorsports. With Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and William Byron, team owner Rick Hendrick really has a lineup that will keep his team on the top for years to come.

And as for the ‘years to come’ bit of the equation, Mr. H recently revealed that things are progressing in the right direction. Or, to be more precise, the contract renewal of two of his drivers is “probably any time pretty soon.”

The two drivers in question are Chase Elliott and William Byron.

Speaking about their future at HMS, Hendrick said, “I want those guys to be with us forever. They’ve told me they want to be here, so I’d say you should hear something on that pretty soon.”

Although Byron suggested he’s focused on the Daytona 500 weekend currently, he is still excited for his future at Hendrick. “I love racing for Hendrick Motorsports,” he said.

“I think we all do. Love the culture that we have.”

It is believed that 72-year-old Rick Hendrick has started to groom his former driver and NASCAR icon, Jeff Gordon, into filling his shoes when he eventually steps down.

Gordon, who remained with HMS for the entirety of his career, also has an ownership share in the team. And more recently, the four-time Cup champion was appointed as the Vice President.

As for how Gordon feels about his new role and whether he’s ‘ready’, one needs to look no further than the recent exchange Gordon recalled having with Rick Hendrick.

“Rick and I were flying home from Daytona yesterday [after the Rolex 24 sports car race], and I said, ‘I’m having a blast’,” he said.

“I still have a lot to learn and a lot is going on to keep me very busy, but I love being more involved with the people here and seeing the side of the business that I feel we can make better — just giving more to our sponsors.”

Now, considering all of these things it won’t be wrong to assume, to even proclaim, that Rick Hendrick’s team is set to dominate NASCAR for years to come.
