Plagued by NASCAR’s decision to allow manufacturers to tweak the front end and cooling systems, Ford has been lagging behind since the start of the 2023 season. While Chevrolet and Toyota pulled ahead with 11 and 7 wins each, the Dearborn, Michigan-based OEM managed to secure only 2 wins from Team Penske’s stables.

Filled with disappointment, Ford’s luck bloomed as NASCAR stepped into Richmond and Michigan. Handing the OEM two consecutive wins Brad Keselowski’s superstar, Chris Buescher shot ahead of the competition. Enthralled by his RFK Racing team’s success, Keselowski spoke to Bob Pockrass in a post-race presser, the deets of which have now been deciphered by HMS legend, Steve Letarte.

Matching Stewart-Hass Racing’s slump, RFK Racing trotted on without a win for the better half of the season. Yet to collect a win, the team co-owner Brad Keselowski collected five top-5s and 10 top-10s. Carrying the flag of RFK Racing to the forefront, Chris Buescher’s surprise win at Richmond had Brad Keselowski puffed with pride.

Approaching Keselowski post the Cook Out 400 at Richmond, Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass asked if RFK Racing was the best Ford team.

Breaking down Brad Keselowski’s answer, Steve Letarte on the NASCAR on the NBC podcast said, “Well, you heard Brad’s answer, right? That was a team owner’s answer, that wasn’t a driver’s answer.”

“He said, ‘Well, we’re just going to let our results speak for themselves’. That’s a man who knows the results. That’s a man who says, ‘Well look who has won the most Ford races this year’ right? Yeah, so, ‘Penske’s won one with the #22 and one with the #12 so they have a couple. We’ve now won two. We only have two cars, they have three, four with maybe the #21’.”

He further added, “Like that was a very calculated boardroom answer, which was ‘You’re not gonna put me on record to say that I’m saying it’s the best, I don’t have to, because I’m gonna give you a very tongue-in-cheek answer by looking at the facts, and the facts will tell you that we’re leading the way’.”

While Letarte broke down Keselowski’s comments, the RFK Racing owner, on the other hand, had a lot to say regarding his team’s back-to-back wins.

Staying out in front of the pack during the FireKeepers Casino 400, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr claimed the Stage 1 and Stage 2 wins. While Chris Buescher did make it into the top 10 until Stage 2, Keselowski, on the other hand, placed 4th and 3rd respectively during the first two stages. As the race entered its final stage, Buescher snatched the lead from Truex Jr, fending off the JGR driver until the checkered flag, while Brad Keselowski placed 4th.

Speaking on RFK Racing’s marvelous performance at the 2-mile oval, Keselowski in a post-race interview said, “It seemed like most of the race the #19 #11 cars were just dominant, and then right at the end, we made some adjustments on both of our cars and found some speed and Chris was able to hold off Martin, while I was running all of them down. I think I was flying with our nexus at Ford. So, really happy for all the folks at Castro and for RFK. There’s a lot of work going on here and we’re digging deep and getting the results and I’m just so thankful and proud for everyone at RFK.”
