Martin Truex Jr. has returned to the top of the standings with his decisive victory in New Hampshire, and his victory also adds to the Truex family’s legacy at the 1-mile flat New England track. In addition to winning at his home track for the first race in his career, Martin Truex Jr. has now fully atoned for his terrible season from the previous year.

While the Joe Gibbs Racing driver looked like he couldn’t be denied a victory as he held off the fierce competition from reigning champion Joey Logano, the 42-year-old veteran has made a startling revelation about his retirement plans. Following his dominant performance, Truex Jr. spoke to the media, where he revealed his mindset, drowning ardent fans in sorrow.

While the weather played its part in rescheduling the race, making this the season’s third Monday race, the community was in for a feel-good finish from veteran Martin Truex Jr., who dominated the short track and led more than 250 laps out of 301. The #19 driver chewed up the field much like his dad, who set the track on fire during the regional stock car series back in 1994. With the 42-year-old adding to his family legacy, MTJ clinched his third win of the season, retaking the #1 spot and taking the 22-pound crustacean home.

But little did the fans know that there was some bitter news coming their way. Truex Jr. addressed his retirement rumors post the NHMS race, opening up about his retirement plans. When asked about his return after this season, the veteran said, “I don’t know. I’m not sure. You know, I was talking out there to Claire, and I was like, This sport isn’t all exactly what it appears to be sometimes. It takes a big commitment.”

Though he credited his team for their driver and teamwork, the driver also briefed about the jam-packed schedule racers are put through. “My team is amazing. They deserve the very best driver, the guy that wants it more than anyone else, and I’ve been that guy. And I want to make sure that if I come back, I’m willing to do that. It takes a lot. It’s not just show up at the track, drive the car, go home. It takes a lot. It takes a lot of commitment. It’s a lot of travel. A lot of time missing things with family and friends and all those things that I’ve done for 25 years.”

While the driver opened up about his naivety in making such a massive decision, the 2017 Cup Series champion then said, “That’s just what I’m thinking about. I don’t know that running good and winning makes a difference. It would be pretty awesome to win the championship and walk off into the sunset.”

With the driver making it almost clear about his plans, this might be the final season we get to see MTJ speeding down the lane in a Cup car. However, the driver expressed his genuine happiness making it big on his home track.

While the veteran delivered a tinch of distress for fans, addressing his retirement rumors, the 42-year-old was so much at home after winning his first-ever race in New Hampshire. Though Truex Jr. has been at the helm, having been in the sport for almost 19 years, a win here has always eluded the New England resident.

But that’s in the past now, as he crossed the finish line in style, dominating the field and leading 254 laps. He then got real about his victory. He said, “I think it’s no secret that you know I’ve been after this on for a long time, it’s always been one that I wanted so bad and maybe I think too bad at times but it was you know well worth the wait to be able to do it today finally and take home the lobster and put another win at Louden with the name Truex on it, very special.” 

And with this win, the #19 is back on top, ending William Byron‘s reign as the points leader and distancing himself with a 27-point difference from the HMS driver.
