They broke the record for most assists in a FIBA World Cup game ever, racking up 43 assists in the game. Then came their lights-out shooting from beyond the arc, going 18/30 in their attempts. In fact, their scoring was so dominant, they put up 100 points within the third quarter. After a quiet game in their opener, Team Canada’s starting forward, R.J. Barrett top-scored, adding 17 points. Furthermore, a total of 9 Canadian players scored at least 10 points.

With this phenomenal scoring display, one can only assume they had a marginal victory. However, marginal may fall short of describing their dominance. The Canadian contingent won the game by a staggering 55 points. This interestingly, draws comparisons to the legendary Team USA’s Dream Team in 1992.

How is the Dream Team similar to Team Canada?

Team Canada has asserted its dominance in the FIBA World Cup so far. Overshadowing the favorites Team USA, the Canadians have become stronger contenders in the FIBA World Cup. However, their performance so far has been reminiscent of Team USA’s Dream Team that took the 1992 Olympics by storm.

The Dream Team entered the 1992 Olympic Games as the most hyped team in the world. They made history as the first-time NBA players who represented Team USA on the international stage. The team comprised some of the greatest basketball talents in the world. They have the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Charles Barkley, just to name some. Sure enough, the team dominated the entire tournament without losing a single game. In fact, they not just won, but won with an average of 40 points in each game.

Similar to this legendary team, Team Canada currently holds a winning margin average of 42.5 points. Although Team Canada is not stacked with generational talents, their skill cannot be undermined. Additionally, their teamwork and chemistry has been sensational so far.
