The Minnesota Timberwolves went head-to-head against the Sacramento Kings tonight. The game was a heated battle from start to finish as both teams fought to gain the upper hand. However, the Timberwolves suffered a massive blow as their superstar, Anthony Edwards, left the game at halftime. Underdog NBA confirmed that “Anthony Edwards (personal) won’t return Friday.”

The star shooting guard reportedly left the game to accompany his pregnant girlfriend, Jeanine Robel, and witness the birth of their child. Childbirth is a huge moment in a person’s life, and Edwards did not want to miss his first experience of it as a soon-to-be father. Edwards rushed to the hospital as soon as he heard the news, leaving the game after playing only 19 minutes and finishing his night with 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Anthony Edwards and Jeanine Robel have reportedly been dating for several months. Robel is a social media influencer with over 121K followers on Instagram. She frequently posts pictures of herself during Timberwolves’ games that she attends to support her boyfriend. After Robel got pregnant, she even posted several photos of herself with a baby bump. Although this is Robel’s first child with Edwards, the 29-year-old has another son with ex-boyfriend and rapper Chief Keef.

Robel and Edwards recently had a huge baby shower celebration. The couple even posted a professionally shot video of the event, to which they arrived in an Audi Q8. Robel captioned the post, “baby A.J.E is otw … 💕✨🫶🏽,” revealing the initials of their baby.

Amid the glamorous celebrations were a few of the two-time All-Star’s Minnesota teammates, including Karl-Anthony Towns, Mike Conley, Kyle Anderson, and Luka Graza. While they looked extremely delighted during the baby shower and would undoubtedly be just as happy for Edwards now, his exit brought forth an unfortunate result for the Minnesota side.

The Timberwolves crumbled without Anthony Edwards

While Anthony Edwards left the arena to witness the birth of his child, the Timberwolves tried to stay afloat without him. Minnesota had a chance to win without Ant-Man as Sacramento was missing their superstar, De’Aaron Fox. The Kings’ guard has been dealing with a left knee contusion and has been out for the last two games.

Unfortunately, Minnesota could not capitalize on the opportunity as Edwards’ absence was too big a loss for them. He entered the game averaging 26.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. In his absence, Karl-Anthony Towns & Co. tried their best and produced a tremendous fourth quarter, taking the Kings to overtime. However, Malik Monk’s 39-point scoring outburst helped the Kings win the game 124-120.

Domantas Sabonis also had a dominant performance and finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists. Meanwhile, no one from the Timberwolves roster could cross the 30-point mark. Had Anthony Edwards stayed for the entire game, the outcome could have been different. However, Edwards could not miss one of the most important moments of his life.

Despite the loss, the Minnesota Timberwolves still sit atop the Western Conference. With upcoming home games against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Portland Trail Blazers, it’s unclear if Anthony Edwards will be back on the roster for them.
