Cleveland Cavaliers and Donovan Mitchell add an experienced wing to their squad. Initially indicated on the Patrick Beverly’s podcast, the Milwaukee Bucks player resonated a possibility of Cavs signing the 13 year veteran Marcus Morris Sr. ahead of the playoffs.

Now, as NBA Insider Shams Charania indicates, the Cavaliers and Marcus Morris have agreed to a 10-day contract. Donovan Mitchell‘s Cavs deploy a slow approach, figuring the vet’s chances with their young squad. While Morris is far separated fr0m his prime, the 34-year-old brings versatility to the roster. It is anticipated that Morris might get to test out his knees against the speedy Indiana Pacers on Monday night.

Marcus, with the correct rotational strategy, can work wonders from the three-point range. Moreover, he can play significant minutes on all frontcourt positions. While it won’t be necessary with Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and other big-men in their roster, he adds depth and an experienced option.

Morris was waived off by San Antonio Spurs and is eligible to sign new contracts within the league.  Prior to the waiver, Morris played for his hometown’s Philadelphia 76ers. During the end of his tenure, he was recognized with a key to the city in light of his contributions within the community. Regardless, he was soon traded to Indiana at the trade deadline, ultimately being pushed to San Antonio.

Throughout his career, Morris averages 12.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Moreover, he shoots the ball at 43.5% from the floor, and near 38% from the arc. However, Morris can be said to be one of the most versatile players in the league. The reason being, his skills around his role evolved with his years in the league.

Like his 6’8 build and 6’10 wingspan, the forward was one of the earliest vets to stay up with the changing dynamics of the game; especially the use of three point line. Coming to the league in 2011, he shot 29.6% from the field in his rookie year. From there, Morris maintains a 12 season stint of surpassing the 40% benchmark.

Marcus has a preference of playing off the dribble in mid-range, with the ability to exploit lanes. However, as the game became 3-point heavy, the forward adapted his contributions from the long range, sinking them over 40% clip during 3 stints since 2019.
