The billionaire LeBron James gets serious as he offers important advice to today’s youth. After crushing the Knicks on their home court, James talks about how the young hoopers of today don’t attach much significance to the sport. Rather, they focus on the materialistic benefits that come with it.

Having had to work hard to reach the status he holds now in society, LeBron has gone through it all. The immediate fame, the immense wealth, and more. He is also one of the greatest basketball players of this era. So, it’s safe to say that he knows what he’s talking about.

“I see a lot of these kids getting so unfocused about stuff that is so material … Just worry about the game … everything takes care of itself,” he assured.

That’s not all. Bron continued with an even more important lesson, “Be selfish, too. It’s okay to be selfish because you have to be a little bit selfish to be able to be great. Some people have to fall to the wayside at times.” This is a perfect example of how one can achieve a balanced approach to life.

There are many decisions and choices that the 4x champion has made which many interpret as purely selfish. The most popular among them is “The Decision”. Over the years, though, the harsh critics have come to see the intelligence behind the legend that is LeBron James. But at that point in his life, James knew it was what he needed to do.

The same shrewdness and smart decision-making is what has taken his life to such heights. Now, James is a household name and a voice that is powerful enough to bring about changes. Yet, not everyone might take kindly to his above advice.

LeBron James might have ruffled some feathers with his advice

Not everyone might see it for the altruistic intentions he wanted to convey. Purely because of the life King James leads now. Not to mention the lifestyle of his two basketball-playing boys (a scroll through their IG account is enough to envy them). From the n number of cars James owned and still owns, to the million-dollar mansion he lives in, it’s difficult for those who live a hard life to understand the lesson he had in mind.

Granted, not every basketball aspirant in the country ends up being drafted. Even with all the “underrated” efforts of Stephen Curry, there are still basketball lovers who live vicariously through others. And this explains why many get intensely emotional when watching players slack off or they feel like they aren’t giving their best on the court. But that’s a subject for another day.

One can argue that the “kid from Akron” deserves to live his life the way he wants, solely because of the path he had to take to reach this level. While the ‘Akron Hammer’ is doing everything to give back to his community, there is only so much he can do.

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
