Draymond Green‘s season is taking one hit after another. Not what the Golden State Warriors had in mind when they offered him a four-year, $100 million extension this offseason. However, injuries coupled with his on-court altercations have painted an entirely different story. The Warriors defensive linchpin missed the entire preseason and the initial two regular-season games after suffering a sprained ankle during off-season workouts. However, when he returned to action, he hadn’t been much of a help either. Just two months into the new season, Green has already accumulated three ejections and two suspensions. Naturally, these incidents incurred a hefty cost, amassing fines that tally up to millions.

That’s not all. To make matters worse, recent reports show that his ranking has dropped a staggering 187 ranks since the preseason.

Draymond Green faces yet another setback

A recent report by HoopsHype, which includes a list of players who have underperformed their preseason rankings, shows that Green’s ranking has plummeted significantly. The Warriors forward was in the consensus 44th position before the start of the season. However, now he is at No. 227, indicating an astounding drop of 187 positions in the rankings! This came on the heels of his two suspensions that the league imposed on him due to his “history of unsportsmanlike acts.”

He was first suspended for five games for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during the team’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 15. Not even a month later, the league suspended him indefinitely after he smacked Phoenix Suns’ center Jusuf Nurkic across the face on December 12.

In addition to his on-court scuffles, his performance has not been up to par either. He is averaging just 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks. The Warriors are also doing better when he is not on the floor, as they were 9.9 points per 100 possessions worse when he was playing. They have even climbed one spot in the West and now sit at 10th place (15-14) with an ongoing five-game winning streak since Green’s suspension.

Draymond Green pays a hefty sum in fines

All these ejections and suspensions have burned a deep hole in Green’s pockets. The three ejections have cost him $2000, $4000, and $6000 respectively. The four technical fouls this season alone sum up to $8000. For the five-game suspension, he lost $769,705. His indefinite suspension is expected to last three weeks as he undergoes counseling. However, the six games he has missed so far tally up to $923,646 in money lost, adding up to $17,13,351 in fines this season alone.
