The Milwaukee Bucks are in deep trouble! Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. are already struggling against the Indiana Pacers and have fallen into a 3-1 deficit. Ahead of this re-match from last season, there was a lot of optimism that this time around, the Bucks might be able to overcome the challenge. However, they suffered a setback even before the series tipped off. Their starting point guard, Damian Lillard, suffered from a deep vein thrombosis. This made him miss a significant portion of the final stretch of his team’s matchups. However, he made a comeback in Game 2, and Milwaukee faithful took a sigh of relief. But tragedy struck again!

Damian Lillard’s future is in massive trouble again. The Bucks’ point guard was helped off the court after he tumbled on the ground during Sunday’s 129-103 defeat. This was a non-contact injury that occurred during the first half when the nine-time All-Star was trying to secure an offensive rebound. Lillard even wore a boot and used crutches while leaving the arena. Still, the Bucks fans were hoping that their point guard, who’s managed to battle through several injuries this season, would be fine. However, they are about to receive some devastating news. Now, journalist Chris Haynes has reported that the Bucks superstar has suffered a probable season-ending blow.

According to Haynes, “Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has suffered a torn Achilles, league sources tell me.” This is a massive blow for Milwaukee, which is gearing up for a must-win Game 5. An MRI after the game revealed the severity of Lillard’s injury. It’s devastating to see such a brutal end to Dame’s 2024-25 season. “This is a tough one,” Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said. “Blood clot followed by this. It’s just tough. … He’s such a great freaking dude. No one deserves this. That’s why I feel bad. I’ve seen injuries that are deflating. This one hurt.” Lillard was a massive part of Milwaukee’s resurgence in the regular season. The 34-year-old averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in the regular season.

Indeed, the Bucks’ head coach is devastated by the news and will have to figure out a way to advance through to the next round. They are already in a slump, and without Damian Lillard, it’s going to be an uphill battle. Once again, the offensive onus will lie on Milwaukee’s franchise player, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks forward is already lacking support from his teammates throughout the series. It will be interesting to see how the team approaches the playoffs without their starting point guard, as his injury has cast a shadow over the franchise’s future. So, what’s next for the Bucks?

Damian Lillard’s injury puts Milwaukee’s future at risk

As Damian Lillard hit the floor during the Milwaukee Bucks’ loss against the Pacers on Sunday, not only did his season end, but it also indicated that the franchise’s future. The Bucks are headed for their third first-round exit in as many seasons, down 3-1 to the Pacers. They haven’t gone past the second round since the team’s 2021 championship-winning season. With no foreseeable date set for Lillard’s return, the signs are not great. Even if he does return next season, there are doubts that he will be the same player he once was. Even before this worrying news, the team’s lack of success had already led to speculations.

Many believe that if the Bucks crash out of the first-round playoffs yet again, Giannis Antetokounmpo might request a trade. Lillard’s untimely injury doesn’t help the case. Kevin Durant suffered a similar injury in 2019 and missed the following season. Regardless, this leaves Milwaukee without Lillard and just a few other pieces to move around and rebuild around Giannis. Building through draft picks is out the window with the Nets and Pelicans owning their capital for the upcoming season. The free agency doesn’t look much better either.

The Bucks are fifth in salary this season with a massive $183 million. Moreover, they already have multiple free agents such as Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, and Kevin Porter Jr., all of whom are key parts of this team. But none of them are as good as Lillard. Winning the NBA with two supermax players is already difficult. However, doing so without one of them is nothing less than a miracle. It will be interesting to see what steps Milwaukee takes, and even a rebuild is worth trying, as everyone watches closely.
