Following the dominant win over the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards shared his two cents on his defensive game play. Over the last few years, he has been praised for his athleticism and scoring abilities near the paint. The hype for the star reached a new high, when the fans compared him to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan in the 2023 off season. Now, the rising superstar has opened up about his defensive game.

Ever since the FIBA WC 2023, Edwards has managed to stay on lime light, solely because of his consistent efforts on the court. He kept the MJ comparison alive with his outstanding performances for the Wolves. While the hype surrounding were majorly about his offensive skills, let’s hear more about his defense play from the man himself.

Following a blow out loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Wolves came back with a strong win. Especially, Anthony Edwards displayed his masterclass by dropping 44 points with assists, helping the take home a 118-110 win. Moreover, this thunderous game play also included a few notable gems in the defense end of the court.

He produced three steals and a block along with his offense prowess. Additionally, Wolves coach Chris Finch also addressed the decision to focus more on team’s defense, reported Sports Illustrated. He added, “We spent a lot of time yesterday just trying to rebuild some parts of our defense that had slipped.” And, it managed to reflect on the game as well. In the meantime, Edwards also opened on his defense mindset.

When Dane Moore of Blue Wire asked Ant Man about his defense, he said, “It’s an ego thing with me. I don’t want nobody to score and be backpedaling, doing their celebration and shit on me. So, yeah, it’s a big ego thing for me. I take a big pride in that.” 

The rising superstar has always been vocal about his thoughts and ambitions related to the game. Even it sounded disrespectful to a player.

Ahead of the season, he expressed his ambition to meet the Warriors in playoff. And the reason he revealed was hilarious. He said, Because Draymond talks so much trash.”

9x NBA Champion already recognized Ant Man’s defense prowess

While the star opened up about his mentality when it came down to defending and guarding a player, 9x NBA Champion Steve Kerr has already spoke about it.

It was Kerr, who coached Team USA during its FIBA WC run. Even though the campaign was an unsuccessful one, it had a lot of takeaways for the future. Notably, Edwards’ defense.

Kerr said, “We feel like we always have the best defensive guards in the tournament… This guy [Anthony Edwards] is right up there at the top. The pressure he puts on the ball, the way he stays in front, it really can confuse a defense and take them out of their stuff,” reported Rappler.com
