The Lakers arrived in Charlotte bringing the star power fans sorely missed. Austin Reaves is back in the rotation to back Luka Doncic as we inch closer to LeBron James’ return date. Amid some mildly threatening full-court shots (that didn’t count because it was after the whistle) from Luka, the duo were back to their high-scoring antics. The Lakers stars casually led the team to a 111-121 win over the Hornets and redeemed themselves from that loss to the Hawks. LA improved their record to 8-3 without Bron while the Hornets fell 3-7.

Lakers vs Hornets: Game summary and key moments

The Internet was calling this a vastly mismatched game. But it didn’t take away from some career moments. Marcus Smart’s seven steals ties for the most by a Laker in 29 years. He finished with 13 points, 6 assists and four rebounds too making a case for DPOY.

Hornets also made their opponents nervous a few times. Far from their inferior label, the team had a couple of opportunities to tie the game. If those threes were made. Miles Bridges was the center of their offense tonight with 31 points. He came very close to Luka Doncic’s 36 points and Austin Reaves’ 24.

Having Reaves healthy was perhaps the highlight. He created incredible moments like making the halftime buzzerbeater and flexed. We got some of that Doncic-Reaves banter back when Luka made a casual 70-foot jumper that didn’t count but proceeded to trash talk Reaves anyway.

The Lakers also touted Rui Hachimura, who had 21 points, as their most underrated but reliable player. Deandre Ayton also continues to prove his critics wrong with his consistency, going 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Bridges had backup from Kon Knueppel who contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds and helped the Hornets catch up to the Lakers.

Fans are prematurely, but rightfully, confident about the Lakers meeting the reigning champs OKC on Wednesday. The same day, the Hornets have another tough matchup on their hands with the Bucks.
