We know the Bucks’ roster is centered around Giannis. Taurean Prince, who has become a key contributor for the team, was under assistant coach Darvin Ham. But on November 7, he was ruled out indefinitely on Friday, due to a neck injury. Now there is a rather grim update from the Bucks on his current status.

The Milwaukee Bucks posted a medical update: “Taurean Prince underwent an MRI last week that revealed a herniated disk in his neck. Prince will be sidelined indefinitely as the team’s medical staff and external specialists determine the best treatment plan. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”

This comes as a massive blow to the Bucks, who are already thin with Guard Kevin Porter Jr., who is currently nursing the surgery on his right knee. More importantly, the situation puts more pressure on Giannis, who already has a lot on his plate. In the nine games he has played this regular season, he is averaging 33.8 points per game. Despite managing his recurring left knee tendinopathy injury, Giannis surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record, with the most 40-point games, in a total of 56 games.

Even Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, on a recent podcast, addressed the way Giannis is pushing his limits. He said,  “Milwaukee. I don’t like how hard Giannis playing. Giannis look like he playing. Got to do too much. You know what I’m saying? He got to do too much. He needs some help.”

In the last 5 games that he played with the Bucks, Taurean Prince has averaged 6.1 points with a FG percentage of 44.7%. While the Bucks did not update on a recovery timeline for Prince, generally, the recovery time for a herniated disc in the neck takes up to six to twelve weeks with non-surgical treatment. The news brought mixed reactions from fans online, where most are praying for him, while others preferred to take a dig.

This perception of Darvin’s favoritism has been haunting him since his Lakers days. And it is not limited to his favors to the Prince. Apparently, Darvin also favored Cam Reddish back in the day; despite his struggles, he received more play time. Similarly, Taurean Prince was accused of getting more opportunities to play, simply because he was under Darvin.

Whereas players like Austin Reaves were punished with reduced playing time on multiple occasions. Referring to the same, one fan wrote, Darvin Ham just fell to his knees. As if the injury would personally affect Ham. Another fan seemingly expressed his sympathy for Ham during this hard time by posting, Prayers up for Darvin Ham.

For now, all Milwaukee can do is breathe, regroup, and hope the timeline leans toward healing rather than surgery. Prince may not be the headline star, but his absence is already felt in the cracks of the rotation. And with Giannis playing like he’s carrying the entire city on his shoulders, the Bucks can’t afford many more hits. If there was ever a moment for this roster to prove it has real depth behind its superstar, it’s right now.
