NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that Ja Morant will undergo season-ending surgery for a labrum tear in his shoulder. The Grizzlies said that Morant suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder on Saturday, leading to him feeling soreness and discomfort. Ja went through an MRI that revealed the underlying labral tear on his shoulder. That is devastating news for Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis had finally started to pick up some pace after an abysmal 6-19 start to their season. The Grizzlies had a 7-4 winning record since Ja’s return from suspension, showcasing his impact on the struggling squad.

Ja had played 9 out of the 11 games since his return, averaging 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds. With him sidelined for the rest of the season, the Grizzlies might turn to former MVP Derrick Rose and former DPOY Marcus Smart for support. They are the only two listed point guards on the Grizzlies roster apart from Ja Morant.

The Memphis Grizzlies season might be over

Ja Morant brought a new fire to the Memphis Grizzlies squad when he returned from suspension. He helped the team come out of their rut and get back to winning ways. But with his season-ending in heartbreak due to an injury, The Grizzlies’ hopes to make the playoffs might also be over. The Grizzlies are 7-20 without Ja Morant in the lineup. They are currently 13th in the Western Conference standings with a 13-23 record. The Grizzlies will need a miracle to turn their season around without their biggest superstar.

The Grizzlies might also look to make some moves before the trade deadline to improve their roster. But it might be of no use. Even if the Grizzlies somehow make the playoffs, they are nowhere close to contending for the title without Ja Morant. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies fans, the roller coaster of emotions this season might have reached a devastating end with Ja’s season-ending injury.
