The Detroit Pistons are having a historic season, but for all the wrong reasons. Currently, the Pistons are on a 27-game losing streak. They remain rooted to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, having won just two games and losing another 28 games. Despite having one of the most promising young talents in Cade Cunningham, the Detroit Pistons have appeared lacking in inspiration and confidence.

The team is in dire need of assistance to break free from their dismal slump. However, can a former NBA champion and 8x All-Star provide the essential push required to turn their fortunes around?

Dwight Howard offers to join the Detroit Pistons

In the early 2010s, Dwight Howard was one of the best players in the league. His incredible scoring prowess and ability to dominate the paint earned him comparisons with Shaquille O’Neal. However, his career petered away once he left the Magic. But his experience and skills could come in handy for the Detroit Pistons. Recently, Howard trolled the Pistons through his X (formerly Twitter) handle. He wrote, “You know who would win them some games lol …IT, John Wall, Michael Beasley, Demarcus, Me…. Bench: Do, Kemba, Lance, Blake, Tako.”

The players Howard mentioned in his tweet have all left the NBA and ply their trade around the globe. Howard himself last played in the NBA in 2022 with the Lakers, where he helped LeBron win his 4th ring in 2020. On 7th November 2022, Howard signed for Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League in Taiwan.

The Philadelphia 76ers hold the record for the longest losing streak. They lost 28 straight games during 2015. However, their ignominious record is under threat from the Pistons. Having endured a staggering 27 consecutive losses, the Pistons are set to take on the Boston Celtics in their upcoming match.

The Pistons’ abysmal form has even bewildered star man Cade Cunningham. In a post-match press conference, Cade said, “We’re not 2-26 bad. You know what I mean? No way are we that bad. So, yes, I think we can turn it around.” Despite Cade’s confidence, a turnaround looks extremely unlikely for the current iteration of the Pistons.
