The basketball world is well aware of Luka Doncic’s profound admiration for LeBron James. Long before the Dallas Mavericks chose the #3 pick him in 2018, he openly declared James as his ultimate role model. On the flip side, James holds deep regard and fondness for the magic Luka Doncic spreads across the league.

Beyond his athletic prowess, James acknowledges Luka’s exceptional professionalism within the NBA. Luka Doncic’s extraordinary talents fueled James’ aspiration to have him as the flagship player on ‘Team LeBron’. However, the meticulous preparedness of Nike threw a wrench into the King’s plan, rendering it unachievable.

Luka inked his initial contract with none other than Michael Jordan‘s Air Jordan brand. As a projected leader in the NBA, the logical next step was for him to have his line of signature shoes. Regardless, his five-year deal seemed to leave the door open for James to gather the necessary resources to woo Doncic. However, recent revelations have taken an unexpected turn. Luka has confirmed a contract extension with Jordan, dashing James’ hopes.

Luka Doncic signs an extension with Jordan

In anticipation of the upcoming FIBA World Cup, Luka and the Slovenian team are gearing up to grab the title. However, before focusing on the cup, the superstar has ensured a long-term business deal. While his current Dallas Mavericks contract spans until 2026-27, he’s extended his partnership with Jordan Brand all the way to 2029. Luka also has a player option for the 2025-26 season. As it stands, Doncic’s commitment to Jordan Brand now surpasses his allegiance to the Mavericks.

Back in December 2019, Jordan initially unveiled Luka as a signature athlete. It marked a historic moment as he became the first European-born signature athlete for the brand. Stepping into the deal, Luka had prior business experience from his two-year agreement with Nike during his time with Real Madrid in 2017.

His new extension eradicates the chances of LeBron’s wish to sign Luka Doncic. However, being the business maestro that James is, there are still plenty of areas in which the two superstars can collaborate.

Fans react to Luka’s extension

Even though his fans closely watch Luka for his upcoming FIBA run, his shoe deal briefly granted fans a reason to chime in their voices. Overall, the news garnered mixed reactions. Luka’s initial shoe design sold out within 30 minutes of launch. Despite that, @wsdam on Instagram commented“More weak shoes coming”.

Similarly, @Preston_gray50 quickly claimed Jason Tatum’s shoe designs have supremacy over Luka’s editions.

When it comes to design, preferences can not be countered because of their subjectivity. However, when it comes to being the face of a company, Docic’s arsenal comes packed as any other athlete. His wider global audience factors an additional realm regarding potential customers.

@ranoelsky countered the claims of supremacy of Tatum’s shoes by stating, “His shoes were arguably better than Tatum, who is also under Jordan Brand. And Zion, well, you know the sh*t he’s doing.” On the other hand, @NBAReactz riled in the optimistic viewpoint, recognizing Luka’s potential.

In light of Luka’s constantly evolving magic, other fans pointed out the increase in Doncic’s earnings if he had waited multiple years before signing the extension.
