Shaquille O’Neal, who grew up in Newark, once intended to provide people with a one-of-a-kind movie-watching experience. As a result, he decided to spend $7 million on a movie theater. Speaking of movies, that theater, years ago, screened the contentious film that Kyrie Irving has received flak for promoting, as per latest claims. Irving promoted a film based on a controversial book that supposedly had antisemitic undertones. The Brooklyn Nets guard was widely criticized as a result. Many NBA stars, including Shaq, slammed Irving for his actions.

On 28th October, Irving promoted a movie that was released in 2018. The movie is based on an allegedly antisemitic book. And after the post, Irving found himself on the wrong side of history again. As a result, he got suspended for five games, and had to pay $500,000 in fines. In addition, multiple brands opted out of their endorsement deals with the veteran guard. Furthermore, this whole controversy hampered his reputation.

Meanwhile, Shaq broke his silence on the incident and said, “It hurts me sometimes when we have to sit up here and talk about stuff that divides the game.”

Shaquille O’Neal called out by Bishop

Back in 2012, Shaq wanted to do something for the people of Newark, where he grew up. So Shaquille O’Neal joined hands on a $7 million project with Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group and other big firms. Furthermore, they opened a theater named CityPlex12 theater which was spread over 20,000 sq feet and had 6 screens.

According to the tweet, years ago CityPlex12 screened the same movie that Kyrie Irving is receiving backlash for promoting. The tweet calls out Shaq, saying “CityPlex12 Theatre in Newark, New Jersey, which is owned by Shaquille O’Neal, showed…the same film that Shaq condemned Kyrie Irving for sharing.”
