“Blind Leading the Blind”: Scottie Pippen, Who Saw Michael Jordan Eat McDonald’s Everyday, Advised NBA Veteran Against It

The NBA is considered one of the toughest basketball leagues in the world. Despite being sensations, many NBA stars have found it difficult to establish themselves in the league due to its super competitive nature. Thus, many upcoming NBA talents look up to the veterans for guidance to become a dominating force in the league. Recently, former Chicago Bulls player Jamal Crawford shared that the six-time NBA champ, Scottie Pippen, who saw Michael Jordan eat McDonald’s every day, guided him through his first couple of seasons with the ‘Baby Bulls.’

The Chicago Bulls enjoyed a decade of winning in the 1990s under Michael Jordan‘s reign. He, along with Scottie Pippen, won six-NBA championships for the Bulls during the period. However, Jordan did not follow strict diet habits during the early stages of his career, as revealed by many former teammates.

Jordan’s former Bulls teammate, Charles Oakley once revealed that players ate a lot of McDonald’s during the old days. The 1994 All-star reckoned that Michael Jordan ate McDonald’s every morning for breakfast and had steaks before every game. Meanwhile, Scottie Pippen witnessed MJ’s diet as he was his teammate since 1987. However, the seven-time All-star gave Jamal Crawford a completely different piece of advice in the 2000s.

Pippen Advises against Michael Jordan McDonald’s routine

The Michael Jordan era ended for the Bulls in 1998 and they did not win a single championship after he left. During the 2000s, the Chicago Bulls were the youngest team in the league and were referred to as the ‘Baby Bulls.’ It was the same period when Jamal Crawford was picked by the team as the seventh-overall pick.

The three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year recently talked about the guidance he received from Scottie Pippen on the Steam Room podcast. Crawford stated, “I felt like we had the youngest team in the league, back-to-back years. So, we were the blind leading the blind.”

Crawford continued that NBA veteran Pippen taught him some things which really influenced his career. Scottie Pippen advised Crawford that ‘being on time is being early’ and ‘not to eat Mcdonald’s after practice.’ The former Bulls star felt Pippen’s valuable advice was the kind of thing that could turn a year into a career. Moreover, Crawford reckoned that it was quite important to have a veteran’s guidance in every aspect of one’s life.
