Celtics Fans Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg Were Once Bashed By Kobe Bryant’s Former Lakers Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers took on the Boston Celtics for the NBA finals of 2008 in an epic encounter. On one side was Kobe Bryant and on the other was Paul Pierce. Interestingly enough, two eminent Hollywood celebrities had an interesting encounter with the Lakers coach on the sidelines during the series.
Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg attended the finals and were quite vocal for the Boston Celtics, the team they support. The Lakers coach, Phil Jackson, was quite annoyed by the two and he made sure they know the same.

Talking on ‘The Bill Simmons podcast’, Damon talked about this incident in detail. When the Celtics pulled off an incredible comeback against the Lakers, the two got really excited and shouted. Jackson was taking none of it as he shouted right back at them.
Damon said, “Wahlberg and I are like ‘Oh my God!’ and as (Jackson) calls the timeout, he just spins on us and he goes, ‘Sit down and shut the f— up!’ He was so mad – which I get.“

Although they might have not had the best of experiences on the courtside, Damon and Wahlberg certainly celebrated after the series as the Celtics clinched the NBA title.

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are two of the most iconic franchises in the NBA. Legends like Kobe Bryant, and Magic Johnson have played for the Lakers while the Celtics boast of having some of the biggest legends as well.

The Celtics took on the Lakers in the NBA finals for the 2007-08 season. The stage was set for an epic Kobe vs Paul Pierce matchup. Safe to say, the finals lived up to the hype.

The Celtics won the series 4-2 with Pierce dropping a masterclass. Subsequently, he was awarded the Finals MVP award. He averaged 21.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. On the other hand, Kobe averaged 25.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.
