Even as a businessman, ball remained Wade’s priority. He found a way to keep his roots in the NBA when he purchased a minority stake in the Utah Jazz. After his NBA ownership success, Wade reportedly has his sights set on investing in a WNBA franchise – the Chicago Sky. Hailing from the city, this one might be more meaningful than any other project for Dwyane Wade. The rumors sparked after Wade attended a Sky practice and walked through the arena with a comfort of an owner according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

It’s not just the home ties that could persuade the Hall of Famer. The 13-time All-Star has a family connection within the organization. James Wade, the head coach of the Chicago Sky is a cousin to the Miami Heat legend. He led the franchise to a WNBA championship in 2021, the first and only in the history of the franchise.

Players of the Sky were also welcoming of the idea of having Dwyane Wade around. “We need people like him. We need more NBA players to help expand the WNBA, and he talked a lot about that. It was pretty encouraging.” said guard Dana Evans.
