One of the best NBA sides of all time is the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are the most successful side in the history of the NBA with 17 titles to their name. Moreover, their fanbase has had the opportunity of witnessing some of the best players play for them. Recently, legendary Celtics player Kevin Garnett got his number retired in an event that was attended by one of his long-time rivals, Ray Allen.

Interestingly enough, Allen was fined by a judge for skipping jury trial in order to attend his nemesis’ jersey retirement. This led to him having to pay a hefty fine.

Ray Allen gets himself into trouble

Ray Allen is undoubtedly one of the greatest shooters the NBA has ever seen. He held the title of having the most three-pointers in NBA history before Stephen Curry crossed him late last year.

During his long career in the NBA, Allen has had many battles with players. Most notably, Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett. Although the two played for the same team, they have always had a rocky relationship. The beef between Garnett and Allen started when the latter left the Celtics to join LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

Although it seems the two have come to good terms now, all did not go well on that fateful night. When the Celtics retired Garnett’s jersey, Ray Allen was present, and he got himself into trouble for this reason.

According to reports, Allen was part of a carjacking case that required him to present himself in front of a trial. However, the NBA legend attended Garnett’s jersey retirement show instead of attending the trial. Although the judge changed the dates in order to allow Allen to attend the show, he did not turn up the next day as ordered.

This caused the judge to take action and she fined Allen a hefty sum of $1000 dollars to charity. According to Allen, this sum went towards diabetes research. The judge further wrote, “Mr. Allen’s actions in failing to appear for jury duty are both baffling and disconcerting.”

How good were Allen and Kevin Garnett as teammates?

Although their relationship off the court might not have been great, the two formed a formidable team on the court. Along with fellow NBA legend Paul Pierce, the trio led the Boston Celtics to an NBA title in 2008.

During their title-winning season, Allen averaged 17.4 points, 3.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game. On the other hand, Garnett averaged 18.8 points, 3.4 assists, and 9.2 rebounds. (Source: basketballreference.com)
