Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan was by far one of the most competitive players there ever was. He competed at everything, not just basketball. And it would piss him off if he did not come out on top. So it wasn’t a smart move for an opposition player to talk trash to get him all riled up. But that’s exactly what the Celtics did. And they had to pay a hefty fine for it too.

Two Celtics legends ended up making that mistake during the 1986 NBA playoffs. The Chicago Bulls were up against a star-studded Boston Celtics team. The Celtics had Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, and Robert Parish to name a few.

Now according to Michael, the two Celtics stars were trash-talking him during the game and that, naturally, did not sit well with him. He told the two Celtics stars to tell Dennis Johnson, “ You better tell DJ, it’s gonna be a hard day for him the next day.”

That clearly was an understatement because what Jordan did next is still unbeaten to this day. His Airness ended up torching Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics for 63 points. This was in the 1986 NBA playoffs and is still the most number of points scored by a player in a single playoff game in NBA history.

Jordan was absolutely unstoppable during the game. His famous triple between-the-legs jumper clip against Larry Bird is from this game. There was nothing the Celtics could do to slow down the Bulls superstar in that game.

And even though the Celtics came out on top with the final score of 131-135, Larry Bird and the rest of the squad got the memo about who will be the next big thing in the NBA. Jordan has always been a fierce competitor.

One of his famous sayings of Jordan that got popular after the release of his docuseries ‘The Last Dance’ is “And I took that personally.” If there was something that MJ took personally, you could be sure he’d give it his all to come out on top.
