“I Play Terrible”: Michael Jordan Confessed Why He Hated Playing in the NBA All Star Games

Michael ‘The Air’ Jordan is undoubtedly a figure that had an impact on the whole sporting world. The sports icons of this generation grew up watching the legend dominate the game. The legend’s accomplishments require no introduction. Jordan has appeared in 14 All-Star games throughout the course of his career, placing him among the top five players in terms of appearances.

However, the Hall-of-Famer once confessed that he hated playing in the NBA All-Star games. And subsequently, he also revealed the reasons for that.

Michael Jordan Presents His Views on the All-Star Games

Back in 1990, the Chicago Bulls legend appeared in The Arsenio Hall Show.  When questioned about the rumors that he will not be competing in the slam dunk contest because of his knee injury. Jordan agreed that it’s true. After that, he went on to say that the All-Star weekend has become a bit of a vacation for many players. And even though he really likes playing in these games, it takes a toll on his body. In fact, the five-time NBA champion feels exhausted after the All-Star weekend ends.

As a result, his performances deteriorate drastically in the next few games. “I play real terrible,” declared His Airness.

Jordan continued, saying that people vote for him to participate in the All-Star games and compete in the dunking contest. And he appreciates all the support from fans. However, it wears him down significantly once the All-Star weekend is over.

Even though Jordan disliked being a part of the All-Star games, he did leave his fans and the rest of the world with moments and stats to remember. In 1998, at the age of 34, Jordan became the player to win the All-Star MVP. His legendary slam dunk competition with Atlanta Hawks star Dominique Wilkins in 1988 will always capture the imagination of NBA fans through generations.
