“I Don’t Think Kanye Is Crazy”: Shaquille O’Neal, Who Saved Dave Chappelle from Being Cancelled, Shares His Bold Monologue

Shaquille O’Neal was an icon for most of America during his playing career. The 15-time All-Star was a household name and made many friends in the highest echelons of American society. He has also been a vocal supporter of popular comedian Dave Chappelle. The Lakers legend supported Dave in the wake of his comedy specials generating a lot of flak from different sections of society. Well, Dave Chappelle has again spoken on a raging controversial issue during his monologue at Saturday Night Live. And Shaquille O’Neal has cosigned it as well.

The 15-time All-Star showcased his support for Chappelle recently when the comedian expressed his views on the comments by Kanye West. The SNL bit of Dave was a hilarious take on the recent approach of celebrities toward sensitive issues.

Shaquille O’Neal supports Dave Chappelle’s SNL bit

Shaquille O’Neal recently shared Dave Chappelle’s opening bit on SNL on his Instagram stories. Incidentally, Chappelle had received support from the Los Angeles Lakers legend following his controversial stand-up special which generated a lot of heat. O’Neal had commented on how comedians should be allowed to do their work without interference. According to the 7-foot giant, jokes should not be taken seriously.

Meanwhile, the hilarious clip dived down into the controversial topic of recent comments made by Kanye West and Kyrie Irving which caused a stir in the mainstream media. Irving was placed with a five-match ban and Kanye lost his shoe deal with Adidas, in the wake of the controversies. Not long ago, West made certain remarks that generated accusations of antisemitism against him.

In the 14-minute clip, Chappelle went on to hilariously taunt Kanye and Irving on their comments. “Before I start tonight i just wanted to read a brief statement that I’ve prepared ‘I denounce Anti-Semitism in all its forms, and I stand with my friends in the Jewish community’ and that Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time.” Chappelle jokingly commented on Kanye’s recent behavior. He also cracked a few jokes on Irving’s situation, introducing humor to the tense turmoil that all parties are facing.

Chappelle also mentioned the importance of mental health, implying how West’s remarks shouldn’t be taken at face value. “Listen, okay, I don’t think Kanye is crazy at all, I think he’s possibly not well,” the legendary comedian said, highlighting the fact that having mental health issues do not make you “crazy.”

O’Neal supported Chappelle in his endeavor, but was not a fan of fellow basketball player Kyrie Irving’s social media posts. The lack of apologetic behavior from the Nets star didn’t sit well with the Basketball legend.

There is no space for these differences in sports, according to Shaq.
