Game 5 couldn’t have gone any worse for the Los Angeles Lakers. They got steamrolled by the Phoenix Suns and were defeated 115-85 as the Suns take a commanding 3-2 lead in the series. With Anthony Davis sidelined, the LeBron James-led Lakers only showed struggle throughout. It was only in the first few minutes that it felt like they were in cruise control of the game. However, it all changed in the blink of an eye.
What’s done is done, but the only bigger concern now is whether the Lakers will have AD back for Game 6 or not. Evidently, without him, they are only headed for trouble.

It was only for a minute in the first quarter that the Lakers had a 10-5 lead against the Phoenix Suns. But the energy that was visible then faded away as quickly as it came. There was nothing the Phoenix Suns weren’t prepared for and had a response for all that Frank Vogel tried to throw at them.
LeBron on his mindset concerning AD's status for Game 6: "My mindset is he's not going to be able to play Game 6. … If something changes, we go from there."

LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma were the only two players who added useful points to the scoreboard. However, Dennis Schroder, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Ben McLemore finished with 0 points. There was no way the Lakers could have won this game. Even Bron only had 7 points by half-time. Can you imagine the defending champions scoring only 8 points in one quarter? It was beyond belief.

Now, the Lakers’ only hope is Anthony Davis‘ return. In his absence, the purple and gold will have a tougher time tying up the series. While fans are hopeful for his return in Game 6, Bron seems convinced that Davis won’t be making it. He stated, “My mindset is he’s not going to be able to play Game 6. … If something changes, we go from there.”

Do the Lakers stand a chance without Anthony Davis?
Until Game 3, the Lakers were looking like the team that wreaked havoc last season with their dominating performances. And now, just two days later, there is a gaping doubt about whether they will even make it out of the first round of the playoffs or not.

Davis suffered an injury early in the fourth game and did not return to play in the second half either. This had fans believe that it was something serious, but there is no official update about how severe it might be.
However, what the pattern suggests is that the Lakers don’t do well without Davis. He plays a significant role in their success and his absence only puts far too much pressure on LeBron, who already has too much on his plate. Role players have to do much better and they have to work on making more threes, which were nonexistent throughout the series.

Only further updates on AD’s injury can put everyone’s mind at rest. There is only a bleak chance they will survive the Suns’ brutal attack without their cheat code.
