It is safe to say that in spite of doing relatively well, the Philadelphia 76ers are missing the experience of Ben Simmons. Since the beginning of the season, the guard hasn’t featured in a single game. Currently, the Sixers sit just within the top-8, with Joel Embiid pretty much carrying the side. Looking to offload Simmons now, Philly is facing a dilemma. But according to a fresh report, the player himself has expressed a keen desire to unite with Team USA and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

After a torrid time with Philadelphia last year, Ben Simmons opted out of playing for the franchise. Ever since then, he has been forced back into training on a few occasions, but to no avail. Due to apparent standoffs with coach Doc Rivers as well as Joel Embiid, he has warmed the bench and received hefty fines. In addition, the 25-year-old revealed that he has been battling some issues on the mental side. Following rumors of a team-up with the likes of Damian Lillard and Luka Doncic, the San Antonio Spurs are the latest team to enter the race.

Ben Simmons ‘welcome’ to playing for Spurs

Although Simmons was out of touch last year, there is no denying his prowess. A former All-Defensive Team member, there are a number of coaches who can exploit his resources. One of the candidates, is Team USA’s Olympic gold medal winning coach, Gregg Popovich. The 72-year-old knows how to play his cards right, and could do with a valuable guard added to his roster. After all, his side currently sits in 12th in the Western Conference, and is struggling on the attacking end.

According to latest reports, Simmons has chosen the Spurs as one of many potential destinations. Philadelphia’s former #25 is a fan of Popovich, and apparently ‘welcomes’ an opportunity to join San Antonio. That is, if the franchise is willing to acquire him. As per the same report, Gregg and the Spurs are unaware that the coach’s image resonates well with many players, including Simmons. However, the starlet still hasn’t disregarded the other interested franchises, and partnering with Lillard is still high on his bucket list.
