After a long wait, Kyrie Irving will finally be able to play home games with the Brooklyn Nets. The team has worked hard to stay in contention and will look to make the most of it with Irving back full-time. However, the 2016 NBA Champion is not free from criticism just yet.
While many were supportive of his decision, fans and other experts have slammed Irving earlier this season.

With the mandates in New York now relaxed, the criticism has taken another turn. As per analyst Stephen A. Smith, Irving needs to win a title with the team to redeem himself.
Why does Kyrie Irving have to win a championship for the Nets?
While discussing the Nets and Irving, Smith brought up Irving, and how selfish he has been. Now, as the NBA season will end, the Nets will play with a more complete roster. According to Smith, Irving has to bring home a title this year if he wants everyone to forget his ‘selfishness’.

“We’ll forget leaving Kevin Durant hanging. We’ll forget all the games you jeopardized because you left him out there by his damned self because he had to carry the load,” Smith said. He added that Irving was the one who chose a different path, and will only look like a hero to some.
Will a title make Irving a Hero?
If he wins, however, he will be a hero in Brooklyn. “He’ll look like a hero to people in Brooklyn who have not gotten to see him yet, for a significant reason, a chance to win the championship because they’re that good with him”.

Ever since Durant and Irving have moved to Brooklyn, fans have seen them as title contenders. With Irving and Durant finally teaming up as they should have, the team has a proper shot at the championship. Furthermore, the Nets also have Ben Simmons on their roster. Though he is not yet back on the court, his addition alongside Simmons-Durant will be interesting to see.

Scheduled to play the Miami Heat next, Irving will play his home game on March 27 against the Charlotte Hornets.
Despite the uncertainty and unpredictability of the playoffs, fans are expecting amazing results from the Nets. With a few games remaining in the regular season, one can only hope for Irving’s return to boost the Nets. The team is currently qualified for the play-in tournament, which does not guarantee a playoff spot.
