Golf and Basketball is a match made in heaven. Whether it is Michael Jordan or Stephen Curry, many NBA stars have expressed their love for the game of golf. 

However, Golf has a reputation of being a rich man’s sport and inaccessible for the poor. NBA superstar Stephen Curry is out to change that. Apart from basketball, Curry has been into golf since childhood. He talked about his plans to change the face of the game.

Talking on an episode of “Race in America: A Candid Conversation,” on NBC Sports, Curry talked about how he was introduced to the sport and his history with golf.

Curry wants people to look at golf in a new way. Moreover, he wants to make the sport more fun and accessible to people in earlier stages of their life. An expensive sport and a ‘retirement game’ are the usual stigmas around golf.

Stephen’s father, Dell Curry, made his son play golf from a young age, a sports Dell picked up in the latter stages of his NBA career.

He talked about his plans to make golf more accessible. Curry says, “The numbers are really bad when you come into the high school and collegiate golf and professional golf levels, in terms of minorities being able to play. And that’s something I’m very passionate about. Something I feel I can bring a different angle to as a basketball player that also loves golf.“

In 2019, Stephen Curry started a six-year donation to restart the golf program at Howard University. Howard University has historically been a school and Curry’s ventures for Howard earned him a lot of praise.

Throwback to when Curry was more nervous for a golf game than a playoff game!

Although Stephen Curry is incredibly cool on the basketball court, he mentioned once how he was nervous for a golf game. Talking about the Ellie Mae Classic Golf Tournament, Curry talked about his feelings.

“I’ve played in NBA Finals, I’ve played in world championships and played with Team USA. I’ve played in a lot of big games. There is no comparison to how nervous I was on the first tee, standing there with other professionals, trying to compete.” Curry told Bleacher Report.

Stephen Curry is not the only star who loves the game of golf. Eminent names like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Larry Bird have shown their love for golf.

Michael Jordan has a known handicap of around 1. He also organizes the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational since 2001 and has raised around $7 million in charity from the event.
