As the Golden State Warriors face off against the Charlotte Hornets tonight, the star point guards of both teams will be in the limelight. Though Stephen Curry is on the sidelines nursing an injury, LaMelo Ball, having a career year, will lead the Hornets as the starting point guard. However, two years ago, the young guard surprisingly was on the verge of becoming a Warrior.

Leading up to the 2020 NBA draft, LaMelo Ball was among the top prospects of the class. Consequently, he was drafted as the 3rd overall pick by Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Hornets. However, the outspoken member of the Ball family, LaVar Ball, alleged the Warriors passed up on his son due to Steve Kerr’s influence.

The Ball family has risen in prominence in the past decade due to the polarising antics of LaVar Ball. However, he turned it up a notch when he accused the Golden State Warriors of passing up on his son due to the influence of Steve Kerr.

Last year, LaVar Ball appeared on one of the most prominent radio stations in the Bay Area. In the interview, among other things, he brought up the supposed Warriors draft conspiracy involving his son. Ball said, “I knew LaMelo wasn’t going to go to Golden State, on the fact that Steve Kerr was the coach.”

According to Ball’s admissions, his relationship with Kerr might have denied a lethal backcourt of Stephen Curry and LaMelo Ball in Golden State. The Golden State Warriors selected 7’1” center James Wisemen as the 2nd overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Consequently, Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets picked LaMelo Ball as the 3rd overall pick.

But to the surprise of many, potential Curry-Ball backcourt rumors resurfaced earlier this year when Stephen Curry hinted at leaving the Warriors for Michael Jordan’s team.

Stephen Curry made bold admission about playing with Charlotte Hornets

According to a Bleacher Report article earlier this year, 4x NBA champion Stephen Curry admitted to a bold truth about his career prospects. The 2x MVP confessed that apart from the Golden State Warriors, there’s only one team he’d like to play with in the NBA; the Charlotte Hornets.

When asked about a potential future with Michael Jordan’s Hornets, the North Carolina native replied, “… I am not breaking any news right now, I’m not making any promises, All I would say is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it.”
