Michael Jordan had a highly successful NBA career, in which he played for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. However, he is famous for his stint with the Bulls, where he won six NBA championships. After winning his sixth championship with the Bulls, he decided to retire from basketball. But he made a comeback in 2001, this time for the Wizards. At the twilight of his NBA career, Jordan started a Senior Flight School camp in Las Vegas. During the camp, one of the campers, John Rogers, managed to beat Jordan 1-on-1.
During the late ’90s and early 2000s, Jordan’s Senior Flight School camp in Las Vegas attracted several attendees. One of the attendees in the 2003 camp was businessman John Rogers. John Rogers is an investor and founder of Ariel Capital Management. His firm is the largest minority-run mutual fund firm in the United States.

John Rogers was a college basketball player during his time. He has played alongside Craig Robinson in his college days and even captained the Princeton Tigers men’s basketball team. Despite his background in basketball, it is always tough to beat the GOAT in a 1v1 contest. But to everyone’s surprise, John managed to beat Jordan 3-2.

Michael Jordan and John Rogers were playing a game of threes in the camp in Las Vegas. Rogers was surprisingly 2-0 up on Jordan. But the former Bulls star bounced back and equaled the score. However, Rogers managed to hit a shot, thanks to a driving layup, and ran out as the winner by 3-2.
“I beat Michael Jordan, one-on-one,” Rogers said.

However, on one occasion, Rogers got an opportunity to block one of Jordan’s shots. But he later admitted that he regretted the decision to block him.
“I got switched off on Michael from time to time during those games, and I remember he was going up for a shot once and I thought for sure I was going to block it. I whiffed,” Rogers continued.
“That still bothers me to this day.”
Besides beating Jordan and making a big splash in the financial world, Rogers, who also worked for the Cubs as a youth, bested @WarrenBuffett in a game of poker – at his own tournament mind you.

John Rogers surely wasn’t just any other businessman. He played point guard for the Princeton Tigers and has several regional and national titles with the team. However, he was more inclined toward business. He decided to quit basketball and started working in a Chicago-based firm after his graduation.
Michael Jordan’s Senior Flight School camp for middle-aged people
Michael Jordan‘s camp in Las Vegas used to last for four days, and the attendees used to be middle-aged. The fee for the four-day camp was $15,000. So, if you were a middle-aged person in the 2000s and had $15,000 and four days’ time to spare, Jordan’s camp was a lifetime experience. A limo picked the attendees up from the airport.

The coaches at the camp gave some basketball lessons to the campers and made several teams of 10 players each. At the end of a session, a camper was allowed to volunteer for a 1v1 with Jordan. That’s where John Rogers stepped up and beat Michael Jordan.
