Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler has had one of the most heartwrenching backstories of how he made it to the NBA. Now a six-time All-Star, Butler had a rather tough childhood growing up. Now worth about $80 million, ‘Jimmy Buckets’ gave an insight into his impoverished background ahead of the upcoming NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

Jimmy Butler came into the league as the 30th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Though he was a star by his fourth & fifth year in the league, it surely wasn’t easy for him to rise up from adversity, as he gave a reporter another sneak peek into his older life.

Many of the fans are aware of Jimmy Butler’s journey to making it in the NBA. Butler’s father abandoned him and his mother when he was just an infant. Now, one would assume that his mother raised him all by herself.

On the contrary, his mother even kicked him out of their home when he was merely 13 years of age. His mother said, “I don’t like the look of you. You gotta go.” Since then, Butler bounced from one friend’s home to another, couch surfing.

Now, one of the biggest names in the league, Butler is well on his way to his second NBA Finals appearance. So when asked if there was a Finals series that had an impact on him as a kid, Butler said, “We didn’t have cable.”

Given that Butler bounced around during his early teenage years, he may have been more than grateful to have a roof over his head. But right now, he is the highest-paid player on the Miami Heat’s roster.
