Dennis Rodman’s ex-wife has legally changed her name. Carmen Electra, born Tara Leigh Patrick got her popular stage name from the late musician Prince in the 90s. Since then, she has been professionally known as Carmen Electra and it was recently reported that she has embraced that name officially now.

Her birth name Tara has never actually been in the picture for decades and the world knows her as Carmen Electra. It was recently revealed why the popular star chose to make this major change.

Dennis Rodman’s ex-wife changes her official name
TMZ reported earlier this week that Electra filed the official paperwork to legally change her name. TMZ’s sources said that there was some thought behind making this change. The 51-year-old has been pondering over this for a long time and on the occasion of the new year, she decided to finally go through it. With the paperwork already filed and in process, she will soon be legally known as Carmen Electra, leaving behind her birth name, Tara Leigh Patrick.

She got her name from the funk and R&B legend Prince back in the 90s. The story goes that Prince was assembling an all-women stage crew when he first met her. Electra was also a musician and after a few conversations, Prince suggested that she change her name and she went ahead with his name suggestion that would change her life.

She detailed the conversation Prince had with her when he came up with the name. She recalled Prince saying, “‘You look like Electra. That should be your name.’ My name’s Tara, so I was confused. I loved the song. I loved it, but he said, ‘Mmm-mmm. You’re not a Tara. You’re not a Tara. You’re a Carmen.’ And I went, ‘Okay, I can get into this.”

Although she admitted that she was hesitant at the beginning, she decided to trust the instincts of the great musician. “So I was hesitant, but it just sorta grew on me, and that’s it. I’m Electra now,” she added. Decades later, she is finally taking the leap and changing her official name to Carmen Electra. It is still unclear how many days it’ll take for the paperwork to go through, but the change is in motion.
