What Tim Grover had to do to help Michael Jordan maintain his elite position in the basketball world

Tim Grover served as Jordan’s trainer until the NBA legend’s retirement in 2003. Their partnership began in 1989, five years after Jordan joined the Chicago Bulls, and they began working closely together. Talking about his unique training routine with the 6x champion, he said, ?but you had to record a game on a machine called a Betamax. It was the only investment, bad one you made. Yeah, it was bad. It was bad.?

He explained his method of devising various exercises to enhance different muscles, which required watching Jordan’s complete matches repeatedly. Grover used to have a Betamax to record the entire game. Reflecting on this, he said, I mean, we did the crazy — we did the craziest things. I did stuff for his fingers. I did stuff for his wrists. I did stuff for his ankles. -His fingers??

It was truly remarkable how he employed a variety of exercises to target specific body areas, even going as far as including exercises for his eyes and wrists. What’s astonishing is that Jordan wholeheartedly accepted every aspect of the training regimen.

He shared, ?He was like open because he was just like, “Man, just — I don’t want to do what everybody else is doing.? He added, ?If I do what everybody else is doing, I’m going to be like everybody else. Yeah. And he just wanted to win.?
