Discarding Shaquille O’Neal’s HOF definition, ex-Lakers teammate backs 36 YO ex-Clippers star for major basketball honor

Drafted as the 45th pick in round 2 of the 2005 NBA draft, this ex-Clippers star is considered as arguably the greatest sixth man of all-time. This 36 YO ex-Clippers star is one of the rare athletes who entered the NBA directly after high school.

In a recent podcast episode, host and ex-Lakers teammate

Shaquille O’Neal’s HOF Definition: Is it relevant?

In the latest episode of the hit podcast show “Big Shot Bob”, host and 7x NBA champion addresses the 36 YO ex-Clippers star’s Hall Of Fame eligibility. The conversation began when one of the co-hosts of the asked everyone in the room, “Do you think Lou Williams is a Hall of Famer?”.

The other co-host (not Robert Horry) gives credit to Lou Williams’ exceptional career but disagrees as he quotes Shaquille O’Neal’s Hall Of Fame definition, “It’s the Hall Of Fame, not the Hall Of Very Good”. However, the 7x NBA champion disagrees with this definition and gives clarity with a definition of his own.

He says, “It’s not about your NBA career. It’s not supposed to be. It’s supposed to be about your basketball career.” Horry further explains, “If you don’t count the high school and college achievements, then you got to go into the Hall Of Fame and strike out half the mother*****rs in there!”.

Lou Williams has won three ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ trophies in his NBA career which is the highest number of ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ trophies anyone has ever won in the NBA, apart from the crossover legend Jamal Crawford who has also won three. In his 16 year NBA career, Lou Williams has also won 3 ‘Player of the Week’ awards and has had a career-high 50 point game against the Golden State Warriors on January 10th, 2018.

Lou Williams has played for a number of NBA teams in his NBA career and has made crucial contributions to most of those teams. Coming off the bench and scoring effortlessly whenever asked to, Lou Williams has made people notice and appreciate the importance of a good bench player. However, are these achievements enough to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame with the likes of NBA legends like Bill Russell, Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant?
