Hip-hop and basketball have intersected for decades. Sometimes not in the most pleasant ways. There was a time when the NBA faced a Grammy-winning rapper’s wrath. He claimed to be banned by the NBA and ended up slamming the entire Miami Heat roster. Fast forward to 2023, and he’s participating in Dwyane Wade’s Hall of Fame festivities. Despite the change of heart, the internet won’t let the rapper live down his infamous episode.

The iconic trio of Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, although successful, faced a lot of criticism throughout their time together. While most of it was because three superstars of that caliber had joined forces, certain people had other reasons for hating them. One of those haters was $160 million worth rap star, Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne was performing at a Houston event in 2013 when he broke into an expletive-laden rant against the NBA, and particularly the Miami Heat. The explosive public venting has resurfaced on the internet days after Wayne performed at Dwyane Wade’s Hall of Fame event. Coincidentally, he had dragged ‘The Flash’ into his drama, too.

The NBA banned me from all NBA events,” the rapper behind the appropriately titled song, ‘Troublemaker‘ said. “It’s because the Miami Heat told them to ban me.” He had the tweets to complement his public rant too. He was apparently escorted out of a Heat game for rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers in Miami. Reps for the team said that Wayne was never removed, and he left on his own.

He would go on to involve the crowd in his tirade. He’d call out the league, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh to make the crowd chant F-bombs with him. The most shocking moment of the rant was his claim that he had a relationship with Chris Bosh’s wife, Adrienne. She had to hop on Twitter to tell Heat fans to “ignore the chatter.”

Lil Wayne’s bad blood with the Heat went way back. In a 2011 interview, he expressed his frustration that James and Wade didn’t come and talk to him because they were too busy playing basketball at the game the rapper was attending. However, things are now different.

Lil Wayne buried the hatchet with Dwyane Wade

He has at least squashed the beef with one Heat player. Wayne performed at Dwyane Wade’s HoF afterparty and they showed off their friendship on Instagram too. A feud was the last thing on his mind when Wade was living his best life.

As for Lil Wayne’s supposed ban from the NBA, the league has maintained that was never the case. He would later correct his claim and say he was never banned from any game. He would express his support for Bosh immediately too. What is your take on Lil Wayne’s roller-coaster relationship with Miami Heat? Let us know in the comments.
