Lakers’ Anthony Davis Details Why He Sticks to Wearing Kobe’s Over Anything Else

Winning this year’s NBA title was much more than just proving themselves to the world. It was bringing home the trophy for their team’s legend, Kobe Bryant.
Throughout the Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers paid tribute to Bryant in several ways. Just Like that, Anthony Davis made his own personal tribute to Kobe Bryant.
The purple and gold found various ways to commemorate the legend in their journey to their 17th NBA Championship. The Lakers wore the ‘Mamba Jerseys’ for every one of their crucial games and repeatedly confessed that they felt unique energy wearing those and that it brought them a sense of pride.

From replicating Kobe’s buzzer-beater shot to wearing the Mamba jersey, Anthony Davis has done his part in his own special way. In fact, he even found a way to dedicate the games to Bryant, while winning the title during Game 6.

Born in Chicago, Davis ended up wearing the ‘Black Toe’ version of the Kobe PE’s that are inspired by Air Jordan 1’s. AD explained that wearing those was about making a statement. It was in honor of one of the greatest NBA players that have ever walked the court.

“I’m more of ‘wow’ guy when it comes to shoes. I want them to stand out. I wanted bright colors. It felt great to represent Chicago in a Kobe 5 – two GOATs. It was a great moment,” said Davis.

“I always wore high-tops and mids, honestly. Then maybe two years ago, I was trying different shoes, put the Kobes on, and I just felt like I was faster. I jumped higher, shot better. I just felt like Kobe. So I stuck with them.”
However, Davis is not far from being added to the list of greats himself. The 27-year-old has proved to be one of the top players of his generation. Having displayed valor and quality on both ends of the court, that day isn’t far when younger players look up to him and pay tributes.
