With the NBA season resuming toward the end of July, the league is still pretty unstable and the players, divided. The most recent addition to the group of players opposing the NBA restart is Dwight Howard. In an interview on CNN, the star center expressed his concerns and said:

“I agree with Kyrie. Basketball, or entertainment period, isn’t needed at this moment, and will only be a distraction. Sure it might not distract us, the players, but we have resources at hand the majority of our community don’t have. And the smallest distraction for them can start a trickle-down effect that may never stop. Especially the way the climate is now. I would love nothing more than to win my very first NBA Championship. But the unity of My People would be an even bigger Championship, that’s just [too] beautiful to pass up. What better time than now for us to be focusing on our families.

…. No Basketball till we get things resolved.”

Other players like Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard are also against the resumption of the NBA.

Before the league was shut down Dwight was playing as the backup center for the Lakers and was averaging 7.5 points while playing 19.2 minutes per game. The Lakers Center is actively involved in the anti-racist movement and believes that the resumption of the NBA will only distract the people from the important issue of systemic racism in America.
