The Navy Midshipmen are off to an impressive start this season, staying undefeated so far. And while the team deserves credit, there’s also a bit of magic at play—thanks to the stunning Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Maryland. This stadium, with its $56 million makeover, seems to have played a small but special role in the team’s success.
Originally built in 1959, this stadium has been a symbol of pride for the Navy and Marine Corps. It honors those who have defended the country’s dignity and heritage. Before moving to the Memorial Stadium, the Midshipmen played at Thompson Stadium, which opened in 1912. But by the 1950s, rising attendance called for a new, larger venue. So, the Navy invested $3 million to build the stadium, which welcomed fans for the first time in September 1959.
Since then, the stadium has grown and transformed with multiple upgrades. In 2002, the Navy committed to a major renovation, followed by more updates in 2004 and 2005. These improvements not only increased the stadium’s capacity from 12,000 to 34,000 but also enhanced the fan experience with more comfortable seating. Today, the stadium offers premium amenities like chair-back seating, box suites, and VIP options, all located at the “Jack Stephens Field” within the complex.

The Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is not just a football field; it’s a versatile venue that serves multiple purposes. It’s home to both the Navy football and lacrosse teams and has previously hosted the Chesapeake Bayhawks. It’s also the site of the Military Bowl and many other sports events.
Beyond sports, the stadium offers fantastic spaces for special events. It boasts two 3,600-square-foot club areas, VIP parking, and two video boards. There’s even a 12,000-square-foot banquet hall available for rent, making it a prime venue for large gatherings. Some of the biggest events in Annapolis take place here, including the famous Annapolis Crab Feast in August, where thousands gather to devour over 300 bushels of Maryland Blue Crab. And not just that!
